The GLBT National Help Center is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization that is dedicated to meeting the needs of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community and those questioning their sexual orientation and gender identity. We are an outgrowth of the Gay & Lesbian National Hotline, which began in 1996 and now is a primary program of the GLBT National Help Center.

We offer several different programs including two national hotlines that help members of our community talk about the important issues that they are facing in their lives. We help end the isolation that many people feel, by providing a safe environment on the phone or via the internet to discuss issues that people can’t talk about anywhere else. The GLBT National Help Center also helps other organizations build the infrastructure they need to provide strong support to our community at the local level.

Volunteers Needed For Glbt Hotline

April 7, 2010

We are in need of volunteers to help staff our two toll-free national hotlines.

* The GLBT National Youth Talkline is staffed by volunteers between the ages of 18 and 25.
* The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender National Hotline is staffed by volunteers ages 18 and up.

Volunteers on both hotlines provide telephone peer-counseling, local resources and factual information. We ask telephone volunteers to make a minimum commitment of six hours on the phones each month, for at least six months.

We search for volunteers who are very good listeners, are very non-judgmental and who are comfortable talking with callers about difficult issues they are dealing with.

We also have a great need for volunteers to help us in other ways besides answering the phones. The GLBT National Help Center needs administrative help, assistance with fundraising, public relations, information gathering and more. You do not need a professional background in any of these areas in order to help us.

If you’d like to learn more about our many opportunities, please call our administrative office directly at 415-355-0003. This is the central number to call for both our New York and San Francisco office.

Thank you very much for your interest!
