Interview With Inkwell Solutions, Founder And President Bob Scott, July 20, 2010

August 20, 2010

Q: What is the history of Inkwell, how did it get started?
A. Inkwell Solutions, Inc. is a premiere printing resource catering to the demanding requirements of the discerning professional. Bob Scott started Inkwell in 2001 after working for many years as a sales consultant in high-end promotional printing. Mr. Scott wanted to provide more capabilities for his clients, so in October of 2001 he created Inkwell Solutions. Though Inkwell Solutions is a boutique service, they have worked with large clients including Esteé Lauder, Gillette, and New York Public Radio.

Q: What is your position within Inkwell?
A. Bob Scott is the Founder and President of Inkwell Solutions.

Q: What services does Inkwell provide? What is your niche within the industry?
A. Inkwell is a printing service that focuses on high-end, promotional printing. They have worked with a variety of clientele and they have become the ‘go-to’ specialists for high-end, superior quality, detail-driven, and color critical printing solutions. Inkwell has printed materials ranging from elegant stationery, brochures, catalogs and chic cosmetics packaging.

Q: What makes Inkwell stand apart from others in the printing industry?
A. What distinguishes Inkwell is that they are experts in the craft of printing; Mr. Scott has worked from the ground-up in the printing industry and has extensive professional knowledge of the entire printing industry. Inkwell concentrates on the details, and has made a commitment to exceed customer’s expectations. Another aspect that sets Inkwell apart from other printing companies is the story behind their name - Inkwell Solutions. They are not just another printing company, but more of a solutions provider. They are always ready and willing to give advice, and meticulously comb through the details before anything is finalized. Their attention to detail and commitment to their work is what sets them apart from other companies in the printing industry.

Q: How does your company promote its services?
A. Inkwell promotes its services via phone sales, distribution of company marketing material, and most successfully, through customer referrals.

Q: Who is your target market?
A. Inkwell’s target market is anyone who requires materials with high-impact visuals. Many of their clients are those who have been with them for the past 9 years, and those who have been referred by those clients.

Q: What is the biggest challenge in running a company like Inkwell?
A. The biggest initial challenge was starting a company one month after 9/11 in Manhattan. Since then, the only real challenge has been gaining new clients. As Mr. Scott put it, one way to get new clients is to outperform the competition since there are few new entrepreneurs starting up companies these days that require a high caliber of printing. He does this by delivering superior results and with the knowledge of the fact that in the printing industry, one doesn’t get a second chance.

Q: What are you working on right now, any new projects or developments?
A. Inkwell recently wrapped a big project for New York Public Radio, who recently restyled their entire brand image. Inkwell has also done extensive work for Esteé Lauder, including brands like MAC cosmetics and Clinique, and has printed for Gillette, Shiseido, and Women’s Health Magazine.

Q: Where do you see Inkwell going in the next few years?
A. Inkwell would love to work with more cosmetics companies in the future and would also love to expand by working with companies from different industries.

Q: Does Inkwell have any existing relationships with other Dezer tenants?
A. Inkwell has worked with graphic designers in their building at 150 West 28th Street and would love to work with other companies and designers in the Dezer Network.
