Interview With Stonestreet Studios, Founder And Artistic Director Alyssa Rallo Bennett, February, 2011

March 23, 2011

Q: What is your position within Stonestreet Studios?
A. Alyssa Rallo Bennett is the Founder and Artistic Director at Stonestreet Studios

Q: What is the history of Stonestreet Studios how did it get started?
A. Stonestreet Studios is a screen acting school and producing organization founded in 1990. The Stonestreet Screen Acting Workshop ("SSAW"), an integral part of the organization, is an advanced drama conservatory of New York University's Tisch School.

Q: What services/classes does your company provide?
A. The Stonestreet Screen Acting Workshop has a strong training program that helps students evolve as actors and serves to build each students ability to audition and perform on both stage and screen. It is the only screen acting program in the country that trains actors in the real environment of an independent film studio and that focuses both on the Art of Screen Acting as well as Industry Integration.

Q: What is your niche within the industry? Where do you stand apart from others in the acting industry?
A. Our mission is to train actors in the art of screen and film acting - something markedly different than stage acting - by transcending previously learned techniques within an environment of a working production company and film studio. Stonestreet is well-known for its ability to help students integrate into the industry via production experience, showcase opportunities, screen producing abilities and its Industry Showcase Audition Class where students train, prep and audition for different agents & casting directors weekly.

Q: Who is your target market?
A. Although Stonestreet is an advanced drama conservatory of New York University's Tisch School, Stonestreet encourages anyone interested in pursuing screen acting to visit their website, www.stonestreetstudios.com for information on programs and admission into the sessions. Professional students should definitely consider their summer intensive program, which is for actors as well as people interested in learning about directing, writing, producing and production.

Q: What is the ultimate goal of your services?
A. To train actors in the art of screen and film acting and to produce thought-provoking entertainment such as Stonestreet's award-winning feature films The Pack, starring Lucie Arnaz, Roger Robinson, Elisabeth Moss et al, Sonnets In The City, Revengers Inc, Rain Without Thunder starring Jeff Daniels, Betty Buckley, Steve Zahn et al, The Stonestreet-Goldberg Festival of New Short Films (now in it's 10th season) and it's unique historic webseries the47thfloor.com

Q: How does Stonestreet Studios promote its services?
A. Through the NYU Studio/NY Conservatory Fair, stonestreetstudios.com, on Facebook and through word-of-mouth of their alumni such as Miles Teller (Rabbit Hole, Footloose), Xosha Roquemore (Precious), Idina Menzel (Rent, Wicked), Selma Blair (Legally Blonde, Cruel Intentions, Hellboy) and Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars, Forgetting Sarah Marshall).

Q: Do you have any interesting new projects or developments in the works?
A. Stonestreet has launched a company, Vistar Pictures LLC, www.vistarpictures.com that is producing slates of features. Vistar Pictures operates on a new business model, which combines the reduced production costs of independent filmmaking with studio-level distribution and marketing capabilities making its films competitive with major studio motion pictures. Vistar Pictures has been created to become a new blueprint for independent films.
